As a change of pace from the news of the past week, we are going to focus on  vegetable fermentation this weekend with the king of fermented foods, Sandor Katz. BUT WHO, you ask,  is Sandor Katz? He is a self-descibed “fermented revivalist”. Click  on the link to learn more, in his own words. You can also watch this:

Now, having learned about him, we present three of his videos on bacteria and fermentation. There is much to learn here.

FIRST, are you afraid of bacteria?

SECOND, now learn how to make your own fermented foods:

THIRD, still not sure? Fermentation FAQ: Can I get botulism from fermented veggies?

Now let’s say you’ve got the idea and you are interested. But what about those picky appetites children have. How will you ever get them to eat fermented foods? Our friends over at “Organic and Thrifty.com” to the rescue! Lacto-Fermented Foods for Kids: 15 Tips. There. That was easy!

Enjoy a healthful weekend!

WHY I EAT ANIMALS: Back in my early 20’s I went on the Atkins diet for a short time to help me lose some weight I gained in college. The weight melted off almost like magic and I felt great. Now, there were plenty of vegetarians back home in Missouri, but when I moved to Los Angeles I was bombarded by vegetarian and vegan restaurants and “health conscious” fanatics whose ideas about nutrition were quite different from the “traditional” diet I had been raised on and the Atkins diet that I did so well losing weight on. I started to feel bad about eating meat. I started to feel like I wasn’t a good person… Read the rest. She is right on. Don’t miss her comments on soy.
